As Seen On:

Who Is Dan Licoppe??
Dan is a versatile, multi talented comedian. He's a stand up comic who headlines comedy clubs in Canada and the U.S. ; a character and sketch performer who has trained and performed with Second City in Toronto; an improviser; musician . and he can even put on a tuxedo and gorilla mask and do a little soft shoe. He's been described as smart yet silly with an engaging performing style that appeals to all types of audiences.
Dan has appeared in his own episode of Comedy Now on CTV/Comedy Network; Open Mike With Mike Bullard; the Montreal Just For Laughs Festival; CBC's Madly Off in All Directions; and is a regular on CBC's The Debaters.
Perhaps Dan's crowning achievement to date has been Mel Silverback. Dan created and embodies the character Mel Silverback , a tuxedo clad, old-time Catskills mountain gorilla stand up comic with an edge, who tells it like it is.
Mel Silverback made it to the semi finals on Season 5 of NBC's Last Comic Standing. Mel Silverback was the most Googled performer on the show for the first two weeks and was so popular that NBC asked him to return to appear in episodes after he was eliminated. He was the only eliminated semi finalist asked to return.
Dan also created and co-starred in a successful, critically praised theatre show, Dawn of the Dad. CBC Radio recorded it for a nationally broadcast Father's Day special. The CBC Radio version of the show has been nominated for a Gabriel Award and a New York Festivals Award for excellence in radio broadcasting.
Here's what the critics are saying about Dan and Mel:
Monsters and Critics.com - Think Shecky Greene in his heyday in a gorilla costume. This simian napalms the audience and judges. I think Ant spit something out he was chewing on. He delivered some of the night's best material.
TV Guide.com - "Mel Silverback blew me away. His Tony Shaloub line is still making me howl."
Toronto Sun - "Silverback is pure gold."
Ant, Last Comic Standing Talent Scout, quoted in the Winnipeg Free Press - "I think Mel Silverback is one of the most brilliant comedians I've ever seen."
Sheckymagazine.com - " Mel Silverback (aka Dan Licoppe ) we gotta say, though, that the guy, er, the ape actually made us laugh. We gotta say that Mel's act, strange as it may have been, was better-constructed and more carefully written than a lot of folks who weren't wearing a gorilla suit and a tuxedo."
Uptown Magazine's Best of the Winnipeg Comedy Festival Review - "Biggest buzz of the festival. Comics and industry types changed their plans to catch Mel."
CBC Review of Dawn of The Dad - "Laugh out loud father and son moments that make life, life. It's funny and the delivery is engaging too."
Winnipeg Free Press Review of Dawn of The Dad - "The difference between Dads then and now is a comedy gold mine. Special props to Dan Licoppe for his performance."
